WEEK FOURTEEN- Daily Log: Friday, June 1, 2007

  • Today was a very special day at my placement because Mme. Mercer took me out to lunch. I came earlier than usual for this occassion and we went to the Greyfriar's Pub with Mme. Mercer for two reasons: the end of the year celebration, and the fact that Mme. Mercer and my own Birthday is tomorrow, June 2. Lunch was great and we talked about how much I have and am improving as well as some of the good times we have had this past semester. We also had laughs about some of the students. I learned so much more about Mme. Mercer in this short amount of time, and now see her in an even new light. She has been such an amazing mentor, and I will never forget all of the help and guidance she has supplied me with.

  • When we got back to school, we had planning time because Mme. Mercer had switched her planning time with Mrs. Cioccio. We talked over the lesson and the weeks to come.

  • In class today, the students were working on making their own recipe, which had to have at least ten ingredients, a title, and five directions on how to make it. They seemed really enthusiastic about the idea, and really had some fun with it. I walked around the class and helped with translations, the imperative, the partitive, and any other questions they may have had. There was an issue between two boys that I thought I handled very well. They were arguing, and I was afraid something more would occur so I stood in between them and got the attention of the E.A. My conflict resolution skills are definitely on the rise. Class was strangley really fun today because everyone was in a good mood and the students were laughing all over the place. I'm pretty sure Mme. Mercer and I got a little giddy.

  • After recess Mme. Mercer and I went to the last class of the day, where Mrs. Cioccio had a few jobs waiting for me. I first sharpened several pencils with the electric sharpener, and brought them back to class. I then washed the blackboard, threw out old chalk, and washed the ledges. Once this was done, I spent the rest of the period clearing a bulletin board, and putting up a new arrangement titled, "Diversity of Living Things". I had a great day today, and worked for three and a half hours.
