WEEK TWO- Daily Log: Thursday, March 1, 2007

  • Today was a very interesting day seeing as the bad weather resulted in bus cancellations. This meant that there were not a lot of students present today. We decided not to go too far ahead of the rest of the classes, and ended up correcting the dictionary activity the students completed yesterday.
  • After taking up their seatwork, Mme. Mercer assigned them a class activity she titled "Lost in Translation". The students were required to translate a french passage into english. The passage was a paragraph in length and was found in their french textbooks. After spending the majority of classtime on the activity, Mme. Mercer collected all of the translations and read each one to the class. This way, the students had a comical way of translating french into english and also saw the mistakes that they made in comparison to the true translation. This proved to be a great learning tool, and also encouraged them to use their french-english dictionaries. Some of the students used to be skeptical of their dictionaries, however now they see it as a helping tool. During class I also spent some time handing back the student's french work as well as doing some photocopying for Mme. Mercer.
  • Today Mme. had switched her planning time with the grade 8 teacher Mrs. Stula, so last period I spent looking after the grade eight students with Mme. Mercer, trying my best to help them.
  • I then went to the library and made some headway on my typing project. Due to the weather, my dad showed up at St. Andrew's at 2:30, so I worked from 11:50-2:30 today-two hours and forty minutes.
