WEEK NINE- Daily Log: Tuesday, April 24, 2007

  • Mme. Mercer was absent today, so there was a supply teacher present to watch over all of her classes. I went with Mme. T. to the two afternoon grade six classes where she would be giving them the day's activity. At the beginning of class, we said their prayer, and I realized that I finally had it memorized, which made me feel great. The students were supposed to finish off the vocabulary from yesterday, that pertained to their new food unit. Their next task was to identify the food on six plates (pictures in their cahiers) and write them down. They were then asked to make up their own dish with various foods on it (a balanced meal). My job was to walk around the classroom and help anyone who needed it. Since there was a supply there, the students were once again very rude and disrespectful. I do my part and try my best to maintain order and their undivided attention. Some of the students were also being mean to one of their peers and this bothered me, so the supply teacher and I talked to the students and somewhat sorted out the issue. I had some questions to clarify the activity, and issues within the activity. Once the students were done, they were supposed to work on any unfinished homework.

  • During planning time I continued to colour the flashcards that I will be using to assist the students with their vocabulary next week. I am really looking forward to giving the students a lesson, and am preparing as much as I can. I will continue to prepare for the rest of the week. I worked for three and a half hours today.
